Descend an endless crypt with a cursed lantern that remembers everything. Light is your life, your map and your weapon. Every floor is new, every death teaches you something.
Beneath Varrow
Then the Crypt started digging back.
The city of Varrow buried its dead downward for a thousand years. Then the Crypt started digging back.
You carry Tallow, a lantern with a mind of its own and an appetite to match. It has been down there with everyone who tried before you, and it remembers how each of them died. Keep it lit, keep it fed, and it might tell you what’s waiting on the next floor.

Light is everything
Your lantern's oil is your lifeline: when it runs low the light shrinks and the dark closes in. Linger too long in the dark and things start crawling out of it. Linger longer and something that cannot be killed comes looking for you.
Every death teaches you something
The first time a foe kills you, the lantern remembers it. Next time its attacks glow faintly before they land, its Codex page opens, and Tallow has something to say about it. You don't just get stronger. You get smarter.
Short, sharp runs
About 20 minutes to a typical death, under an hour to the bottom. Fast, readable combat where every attack is telegraphed and every death is your own.
How to play
Go down. Keep the light alive.
- 01Pick a delver and a lantern at the Hearth.
- 02Go down. Fight, dodge, and keep your lantern's oil up with what fallen foes drop.
- 03Spend Bone at reliquaries for relics; feed relics to Tallow at altars if you dare.
- 04Keep moving: the longer you stay, the darker it gets.
- 05When you die, bank your Embers, spend them at the Hearth, and go down again a little wiser.

The most health of anyone and a greatsword that hits hard and slow.

The Rat-Catcher
Quick and fragile, with a whip that reaches three tiles, and a rat.

Alder
The Choirboy
Fights from range: every ring of his handbells sends a wave of sound.

Maud
The Lamplighter's Widow
Jabs with a long brass lamp pole, the longest reach in the crypt.
